You've heard it before, but WOW, what an outstanding turn out at auditions! We saw nearly 100 students audition for a spot in this production. You made the casting very difficult for us and we want to thank each and every one of you who put forth the courage and talent at auditions. If you made the cut, congratulations! We look forward to working with you. If you didn't, please try again. There are tons of opportunities in the theatre and speech programs.
We decided to have understudies for many different reasons. THIS IS NOT A DOUBLE CAST! Being an understudy to your assigned role DOES NOT mean you are guaranteed to a performance of this role. Should there be a problem with the person originally assigned to the role, such as frequent absences/tardies, sickness, grades, poor attitude, or any other unforeseen behavior, it is our hope that the understudy can substitute for the originator. The understudy will be recognized for their understudy work in the program and will be awarded thespian points for their understudy role(s). It is the duty of the understudy to come to as many rehearsals as possible with the original person who plays that role, learn all of his/her lines, learn his/her blocking and vocal parts, and be prepared to substitute for the originator at any given moment during rehearsal and performances.
We decided to have a fairly big chorus. For one, the production allows for this and it gives a lot of students plenty of opportunity for some stage time. Do know that being in the chorus is an important role and that there are plenty of solo opportunities. Many chorus members will have more than one role to play, while others will play just one role. Not every chorus person will be on stage at all chorus moments. We will share our thoughts and visions with you at the read through.
As your forms indicate, there is a $40 fee for everyone cast to alleviate the costumes/make-up costs. Make checks payable to Kennedy Drama. Please bring this money to Mr. Yuska ASAP. If you problems paying this fee, please see Mr. Yuska personally.
There is a mandatory read/sing through of the script/music on February 15 at 3p.m. in the Black Box Theatre. It will last until 6 p.m. At this meeting, I will cover a lot of important information all students will need to know for the next 2 ½ months. You will receive a full rehearsal calendar and scripts. Make it a habit to bring a pencil to all rehearsals, including this rehearsal.
There will be a parent meeting on February 15 at 7 p.m. in Mr. Yuska's room (room 127). We will cover Sweeney Todd and speech business. If your kid is in Sweeney Todd or if your child is going to all-state or in individual speech, please try your best to make this meeting.
Thanks!
Mr. Yuska, Mr. Tolly, Mr. Sands, Ms. Fleer, Meghan, and Jason
