Kennedy Basketball Support Group Minutes
The meeting was held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in Coach Fontana's room. Those present were: Karen Jahlas, JoAnn Lamaak, Renee Ellsworth, Wendy Manning, Nancy Bell, Scott Appleget, Melissa Stevens, Monica Fergus, Fred Althoff, Danny Bechtol, Tony Carter, Ken Gilmore, Dave Kegel, Christine Botkin, Coach Fontana and Coach Mackey.
Introduction of Melissa Stevens and Fred Althoff as the new Freshman Reps was made. The Reps will be responsible for attending meetings and getting all information out to the parents and players at their respective levels. It was pointed out that the support group welcomed all parents to attend.
The summer basketball program will be kicking off very soon after school ends. Each level will have their team camps during the week starting in June. The freshman coaches are in the process of getting the summer schedule finalized. A "hard" copy will be given to the players. The freshman will be divided into 2 teams for summer league play and 3-4 tournaments in June/July.
Coach Mackey outlined the possible summer tournaments for the sophomore team which was discussed at the parent/player meeting on May 5th. A calendar was handed out at that time. Of note for the sophomore team is a possible "Sophomore Shootout" on Sunday, July 18 at Kennedy. The sophomore reps. will be asking for volunteer help at the gate, clock and scorebook.
The varsity team will also be hosting a tournament at Kennedy on June 12-13. A schedule of the games was given. Volunteers will be needed for gate, clock, and scorebook. The parent reps were asked to send an email request to their respective levels asking for assistance. There will be a full concession stand for the tournament run by Connie Caviness.
The varsity team will be getting new home and away uniforms for the 2010-2011 season. Last year's varsity uniforms will go to the sophomores. Last year's sophomore uniforms will go to the freshman. The support group will be selling the retired freshman uniforms. New ball bags will also be purchased for next season. The basketball support group will be assisting in the funding of the new uniforms and ball bags.
A player data base is being finalized Karen Jahlas for the 2010-2011 season. This data base will be used for communication purposes and a copy will be sent to each of the parent reps.
A Treasurer's report was given by JoAnn Lamaak.
Some things to be thinking about for next fall are sponsors for the basketball poster, magnet, and Kennedy High School basketball website.
The next basketball support group meeting will be held in September (date to be determined).
