COUGARS WIN!!!

Congratulations to the Kennedy Girl's Basketball team for their 46-44 win over Ankeny in the first round of Girls State Basketball action.

The Cougars were led by Jade Rogers with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  Laura Boenish added 10 points, 5 rebounds; Haley Brightwell 7 points, 5 rebounds and Kristen Hahn added 6 points and 6 rebounds.  Rounding out the scoring for the Cougars: Courtney Strait, 4 points, Shauna Happel 2 points and Kassi Nunnikhoven and Mariah Duke, 1 point each.  Duke also grabbed 4 rebounds for the Cougars who pulled down 38 rebounds to Ankenys 28.

The Cougars will take on Linn Mar at noon on Friday to avenge one of their two losses of the season.

2/23 - Congratulations to the girl's basketball team, on to State!  Students it is TIME to get behind the girls team.  Start making plans today with your teachers for your Wednesday finals next week so that we can get to Des Moines and join them in a State Championship!  Charter Pep Buses will be available at VERY reasonable prices....the team and the school need your spirit and support.  Bleed Green and Gold and support the Cougs....start making plans today!

Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team beating Washington 52 to 43 to earn their second straight trip to the state.  The girls will play at 11:30 next Wednesday.  The Coaching staff and players would like to thank our four loyal fans for all the support this season and last night.  Playing well and leading the team were:

Haley Brightwell with 13 points, Jade Rogeers with 12points and 15 rebounds, Kristen Hahn with 11 points and 4 steals, Laura Boenish with 10 points, Maraih Duke with 7 points and 5 assist, Olivia Meier with 4 points, Courtney Strait with 4 points, Kassi Nunnikhoven with 3 points, Kim Muench with 2 points and Shauna Happel with 1.  In all 10 girls scored and it was a total Defensive team effort holding one of their leading scorer to 2 points.

2/12 - Congratulations to the varsity girls' basketball team for sweeping Washington and Waterloo West 64 to 50 and 62 to 44 over the weekend.  The girls finished 18 and 2 and ranked 5th in the state.  They start regional play next Saturday here at Kennedy; playing the winner of Davenport Central or Davenport West at 7:00.  Play well over the weekend were: Jade Rogers with 48 points, Haley Brightwell with 20 points, Laura Boenish with 13 points, Mariah Duke with 14 points, Kristen Hahn & Kassi Nunnikhoven with 9 points each, Courtney Strait with 8 points, Kim Muench with 2 and Shauna Happel with 1 point.

2/4 - Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team for winning the conference title last night in our gym, beating Xaver 74 to 52 wrapping up the title with 3 games to go.

10 players scored last night with Jade Rogers having 25 points and 16 rebounds, Mariah Duke with 16 points and 4 assist, Courtney Strait and Haley Brightwell with 6 points, Kristen Hahn, Olivia Meier, Laura Boenish, and Shauna Happel with 4 points each, Jordan Oltman with 3, and Kassi Nunnikhoven with 2.  The coaching staff and girls would like to thank the fans for showing up and supporting in a great win.

1/30 - Congratulations to the varsity girls' basketball team for winning two games over the weekend.  Beating 9th rated jefferson 67 to 41 and Decorah 66 to 50 on Saturday night. Jade Rogers had 48 points and 35 rebounds, Haley Brightwell had 29 points, Laura Boenish 19 points, Courtney Strait 12 points, Olivia Meier 11 points,  Mariah Duke had 9 points and 12 assist, Kristen Han had 4 points and 10 steals, Joran Oltmann had 3 points, Shauna Happel, 2 points, Valerie Ross 2 points, and Kim Muench 1 point.

The girls play Xavier on Thursday night at Kennedy.  Come out to the game and support our girls as they take on the Saints.

1/29 - Jade Rogers recored a double-double (17 pts and 11 rebounds) before half time and the Cougars romped to a 67-41 victory over CR Jefferson Friday night in the J-Hawk gym.  Rogers finished the contest with 24 points, while teammates Haley Brightwell and Laura Boenish added 13 and 12 points, respectively.  The 5th ranked Cougars are now 14-2 on the year.

1/26 - Laura Boenish scored 18 points and the Cougars improved to 11-1 with a 82-49 win over Waterloo East Tuesday.  Courtney Strait scored 11 points; while Kassi Nunnikhoven added 9 and Haley Brightwell and Jordan Oltmann both chipped in 6.

1/23 - The Cougar Girl's Basketball team traveled to 5th ranked Waukee Saturday and lost a heartbreaker in overtime 49-48.  The 4th ranked Cougars rallied back from a 30-19 deficit at halftime to outscore Waukee by 11 points the final two quarters to force the overtime.  Jade Rogers led the Cougars with 14 points, while Olivia Meier tossed in 10 points for Kennedy, and Kristen Hahn and Courtney Strait both added 6.
The Cougars travel to Waterloo East on Tuesday night.
